cave paintings in Cave of `Punta del Este`, Isla de la Juventud

Cuba 1490

The first Cuban paintings were thrown off by aboriginal rupestrian paintings, then by European - issued cartographies of the island, together with the impressions and myths developed by chroniclers. Out of their long history it`s quite indispensable to point at the realization of mural paintings on the interiors and exteriors of colonial houses which were catalogued as popular paintings because of their nature and artistic quality. Most of these were anonymous and used natural pigments and some bad - quality colourings, having the eldest ones a higher degree of elaboration and complexity in their technique.
